Bathroom Planning: Bathroom Guidelines.
Technical issues
Before choosing bathroom products, a few technical issues should be considered. (Scope Bathroom Interiors accept no responsibility for specific technical problems arising within a bathroom re-fit. We will endeavour to answer any queries but recommend that a professional plumbing/installation company be consulted prior to undertaking major change).
Here are a few useful hints, covering the most frequently arising technical questions:
Layout
It is critical to get the best possible layout for your bathroom. In a small bathroom, there may be little option but to use the current positions, even though a new suite is being purchased. Larger rooms, in general, offer more options. In general, we recommend that a new layout does not depend on moving the WC position. In most cases, this is not possible, due to the fixed position of the soil stack. Should you wish to move the WC site, we recommend that a professional plumbing company be consulted.
Hidden Pipes or Cisterns
Many contemporary taps and showers depend on hiding supply valves and pipework. Such hidden parts cannot be recessed in solid walls, and require at least 100mm of cavity space, as a rule of thumb. Contemporary wall-hung or floorstanding Back-to-Wall WC’s require around 200mm of space and which to hide the cistern and/or bracket.
Water Pressure
A shower will only perform as well as the water going into it.
A gravity fed hot water system will, in general, provide low-pressure hot water. To get a more powerful response with such a situation, it may be necessary to install a pump. Remember that a pump will drain the water tank more quickly, and so storage issues should be considered prior to installing a pump.
A combi boiler will provide pressurised hot water, but often only at one bar pressure. This will provide adequate showering on many systems, however little can be done to increase the output as a pump cannot be installed in tandem with a combination boiler. With the odd exception, body jets will not function adequately off of standard combi boilers.
Mainsflow high pressure water cylinders will provide high pressure hot water, continuously, and in general, will provide an excellent water supply to even the largest of households.
Tiling
When calculating area of tiles required, we recommend that 5% is added to cover wastage. We are obviously very happy to work from your measurements and assist with calculations.
